Joel: Hello gentlemen, thank you for meeting with me. My idea is going to revolutionize the internet. I propose that we create a massive search engine, that’s a tool for finding resources on the world wide web. My company, Noogle scans websites for instances of the keywords you type in, in this search box.

Yeah, that already exists.

Yeah, but it’s called Google, not Noogle.

Do some research. Chances are a fair amount of information is available on what you want to do. Good places to start are the Census Bureau, trade magazines, or even your local chamber of commerce. You might also want to attend an industry trade show. This will help you focus on your target audience and learn about the competition.

I’ve got another one for you. Ever see Back to the Future? Ever wanted to travel through time? This idea’s going to blow your freaking mind, okay? Check this out. We sell the DeLorean. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. What good is the DeLorean without the flux capacitor and what good is the flux capacitor without 1.21 gigawatts of electricity? Let me tell you this, okay? My cousin, Pam, her boyfriend, Todd, right? He went to jail for stealing, I don’t know, six shopping carts or something? Okay, so when he was in Folsom, he met this guy and check out, this guy knows how to make the flux freaking capacitor.

Write a business plan and be sure not to make any unrealistic assumptions. Remember, starting a business isn’t always easy. Your plan should be easy to read since investors may not know the technical chart. When you’re done with your plan, pass it around to some friends for some input.
