HR Policies

What HR policies should you have in writing for your small business? While the law does not require businesses to publish a handbook with HR policies, a handbook can help employees understand what is expected of them, enhance communications with employees, and provide support for employer actions. Some states require businesses to have a written policy about certain actions such as sexual harassment. And if you're an "at will" employer, you should include some words about that status in your HR document. Your handbook should also include policies that cover Equal Employment Opportunity, your workweek and workday, vacation and sick time, termination, employee classifications, and confidentially.
